Testimonials
Through August and September, we held several workshops to show interested community members how to make a vertical vegetable patch. Here is their feedback.

Why did you get involved?
I’ve been wanting to grow more vegetables on my balcony and wasn’t sure how to do it

Yes
Was there enough hands on instruction for you?
Yes
Are you making a system for yourself?
Yes
What further information do you need?
None yet (I haven’t had time to make it yet as I’ve been away)
What difference did the project make for you?
A lot - veg now doable on my balcony and a good community veg- growing group to work with too
What difference has the project had on the community?
I personally feel much more part of my local community having done this (including joining another community group with one of my coworkers at VGrow)
Hilary
Why did you get involved?
I am interested in affordable vertical gardening for people such as myself living in space restricted inner city environments, and in building a community of like minded people to support each other to live more ecologically.

Was there sufficient information provided?
Yes
Was there enough hands on instruction for you?
Yes
Are you making a system for yourself?
Not yet, but I hope to do so in the next few months when I have more available time, preferably with the help of others (and I am happy to help others set up their own systems).
What further information do you need?
A handout listing the parts, likely sources, and the instructions would make me feel more confident. Also, the loan of tools to make it more affordable.
What difference did the project make for you?
It gave me increased confidence that I can do this.
What difference has the project had on the community?
Too early to say. I hope that, as people see the system in action, they will choose to make their own.
Magdalena
Why did you get involved?
I joined this project with my two children because, I want to show them how they can learn and develops new skills from growing things.
Vertical Gardening is a new way of growing things for me, very interesting and easy to build.
Was there sufficient information provided?
Yes
Was there enough hands on instruction for you?
Yes, Amrish is a great at explaining everything.
Are you making a system for yourself?
Not for myself, but hope to share my knowledge and experience with people from my community, friends and families.
What further information do you need?
A little more information about how to do mainten the system. Also what kind of vegetables are suited to grow in container and in different sessions.
What difference did the project make for you?
It gave me knowledge about growing things without soil and big space.
What difference has the project had on the community?
I hope that, in the near future we will be able to see this kind of projects all around the town.

Why did you get involved?
I am interested in food security both as a student and as a citizen. Vertical farming is an interesting way to get growing especially in urban areas so I would like to gain more information and hands-on skills.
Was there sufficient information provided?
Yes.
Was there enough hands on instruction for you?
Yes.
Are you making a system for yourself?
I am making a passive system. I am currently living in a student accommodation so building an active system might be a bit difficult.
What further information do you need?
Cost-benefit calculation for building a similar system at home.
What difference did the project make for you?
I feel more empowered to grow my own veg at home.
What difference has the project had on the community?
Growing more veg in the nursery school.
In the future, it would be great if there can be a community vertical growing space for all people in the community to share together, as it might still be a bit difficult for all households to have the condition and material to build the system in their house (for example, access to garden space).
